Ringing in the Ears (Tinnitus)? Its Causes & How to Stop it?

Tinnitus, which has the name tinnitus in medical terminology, is a manifestation of a disease and does not occur on its own.

How does it appear and what happens?

Inside the ear canal is the eardrum separating the inner and outer ear. On the inside of the eardrum adjoins the structure consisting of three auditory bones. As a result of the movement of air there are vibrations of the eardrum, transmitted to the auditory structures of the inner ear.

From the pits vibrational movements pass to a rolled-up, fluid-filled tube - a snail. The movement of fluid in the cochlea causes the hair cells to oscillate from the inside. Here there are nerve impulses, which are transferred to the brain by nerve fibers.

Damage to hair cells causes various hearing impairments - ringing, noise, hum, hearing loss. In some diseases, these cells move constantly, resulting in nerve impulses entering the brain even in absolute silence.

The ringing can be:

    Subjective - heard only to the patient;

    objective - heard by others (very rare).

Often tinnitus is accompanied by a rumble, a bang, a buzz and other unpleasant sound sensations.

Constant tinnitus can be a consequence of diseases of the inner structures of the ear - eardrum, auditory nerve, cochlea or auditory bones. The ringing may also indicate a disturbance of pulse transmission through nerve fibers.

The causes of tinnitus are varied, associated with both adverse external effects on the hearing organ and diseases.

    A sharp loud sound. After an unexpected clap, explosion or prolonged loud sounds, the hearing aid can not immediately adjust to the usual mode, there is a ringing. This is the most common cause of the violation. To get rid of the unpleasant symptom, it is enough to sleep in silence. But the constant exposure to loud sounds (for example, in the conditions of production) can lead to a pronounced hearing loss and even complete deafness.

    Edosclerosis is the second most common cause of tinnitus. The disease is characterized by filling the inner surface of the ear with spongy bone, which leads to hearing disorders.

    Damage to the outer ear. Getting into the auditory course of a foreign body, a sulfuric cork.

    Abuse of the means that excite the nervous system. The intake of large doses of caffeine, nicotine, quinine (contained in the energy industry) provokes a ringing.

Sometimes the cause of the ringing is:

  •     swelling of the mucous membranes lining the middle and inner ear (swelling and congestion often occur in acute respiratory infections);
  •     Damage to the eardrum;
  •     taking some drugs - antibiotics (often gentamicin, streptomycin), large doses of aspirin;
  •     Head injuries;
  •     Age-related structural and functional changes;
  •     tumors in the head and neck, auditory nerve tumors.

Also, throbbing ringing in the ears and head can occur in cardiovascular diseases:

    hypertension;

    atherosclerosis (the formation of cholesterol plaques on the inner walls of blood vessels leads to a violation of blood flow, which causes characteristic sounds);

    narrowing of the lumen of large blood vessels (jugular vein, carotid artery);

    violation of capillaries.

When you're away

Ringing in the right, left or two ears in combination with throbbing pain and hearing impairment indicates the development of a correspondingly one-sided or bilateral otitis. The disease caused by entering the middle ear of pathogenic flora may be accompanied by the release of the mother from the ear, but this phenomenon is painless and not dangerous.

The discharge of blood fluid from the ear means damage to the eardrum. In such a situation, the patient needs urgent medical care, and in some cases - surgery.

Treatment of otitis should be handled by a doctor, as illiterate or untimely therapy can lead to partial hearing or complete deafness.

With dizziness

Simultaneous dizziness and ringing cause:

  •     accumulation of nerve impulses or violation of their transmission through auditory fibers (against circulatory disorders, injuries, inflammatory diseases);
  •     narrowing of blood vessels and changes in the nature of blood movement (cause - atherosclerosis);
  •     increased susceptibility to certain sounds (due to mental overexertion).

When you feel dizzy, there is a feeling of falling, flying, spinning. A person panics, loses his foothold. There is nausea, increased sweating.

This condition can be caused by:

  •     a disorder of vestibular function, which occurs when circulatory or inflammation of the inner ear;
  •     chronic stress, depression, neurosis;
  •     vegetative-vascular dystonia;
  •     osteochondrosis of the cervical spine;
  •     Kidney disease;
  •     Allergies
  •     general intoxication.

In depression and nervous disorders, along with dizziness are noted:

  •     reduced performance, lethargy;
  •     irritability;
  •     increase or weaken appetite, leading to a change in body weight.

In vegetative-vascular dystonia, ringing and dizziness (permanent or periodic) complement:

  •     sharp spikes in pressure;
  •     Frequent pre-unconscious conditions;
  •     increased heartbeat (tachycardia),
  •     fever, fever;
  •     Increased sweating;
  •     sensitivity to weather conditions.

If you correctly identify the cause of unpleasant symptoms and carry out appropriate therapy, ringing and dizziness passes.

In hypertension

At high pressure there are structural and functional changes in small blood vessels. Most of all, the lesion affects the brain - vascular walls lose elasticity, vascular lumen narrows, resulting in the development of hypoxia (insufficient oxygen supply to the brain). There is dizziness, broken hearing, there is a ringing, noise.

Arterial hypertension accompanies:

  •     throbbing noise, hum and ringing in the ears, dizziness (constantly or periodically);
  •     impaired movement coordination, fainting;
  •     Increased blood pressure;
  •     hearing loss.

Modern pharmaceuticals are used to control pressure. But before treating hypertension, it is important to establish its cause. In addition to drugs that reduce blood pressure, it is necessary to control the level of cholesterol in the body.

Symptoms of a sharp reduction in pressure are almost the same as its increase: nausea, "fog" in front of the eyes, lethargy, strong, sharply arising weakness.

In osteochondrosis

In the case of osteochondrosis of the cervical spine:

    Rings in the ear;

    Nervousness appears;

    there is dizziness (enhanced while moving the head);

    there is pain in the temples, the back of the head, the neck;

    twilight vision deteriorates, ripples in the eyes;

    memory is reduced.

In osteochondrosis, blood vessels narrow, blood flow deteriorates, hypoxia occurs, which in turn leads to ringing, dizziness and other unpleasant feelings.

What to do if there is a ringing in the ears?

    Control blood pressure, as necessary to take drugs to normalize it.

    To refuse to use salt, because in auditory disorders sodium aggravates the condition.

    Limit the use of strong tea and coffee, give up energy.

    Stop smoking.

    Do the charging. Moderate exercise improves circulation, and ringing can pass.

    Do not overwork, observe the labor regime, fully sleep (physical exhaustion can cause swelling and congestion of the inner ear, and as a result there is a ringing).

    Avoid stress.

    Contact your doctor to determine the exact cause of the ringing.

Diagnostics

To find out why it rings in the ears, you need to undergo a medical examination. To begin with, the doctor finds out how long ago the ringing appeared, in what situations it is amplified, what drugs the patient takes, whether there are other complaints (dizziness and others).

The state of hearing organs is investigated: the presence of sulfur corks, the dysfunction of blood vessels. A full examination is then carried out, as it is not always the ringing that appears in hearing diseases.

Traditional treatment

The treatment of tinnitus depends on the reason for which the ringing in the ears. If an unpleasant symptom provoked age-related changes or trauma, you will not be able to get rid of it. You can only reduce the intensity of sounds that occur in the ears.

If the causes are different, the ringing can be removed, clearing the auditory passages from sulfur plugs, cured identified cardiovascular diseases, replacing the drugs used with other drugs.

Sometimes for the treatment of tinnitus prescribed drugs group of tricyclic antidepressants (Amitriptyline). These are quite serious medicines that can cause various side effects: drying of the mucous membranes of the mouth, impairment of vision, impaired defecation.

Home Remedies

    Fresh grass millennial to pass through the juicer. Juice drip in each auditory stroke for 2-3 drops twice a day.

    Mix the propolis tincture with vegetable oil in a ratio of 1:4. Soaked in the medium cotton swabs enter the ear at night. The course of treatment is 10 days.

    Mix in equal quantities beet and cranberry juice. Take one to four cups three times a day.

    Pour a tablespoon of Melissa with a glass of boiling water, infuse, drain. Drink throughout the day in 3 receptions (you can in the infusion add a little honey). Infusion is not recommended for people with low blood pressure.

Treatment of tinnitus by folk remedies does not replace the basic therapy, but only complements it. To get rid of the unpleasant symptom completely, it is important to find out exactly the cause of its appearance. After all, the methods of treatment, including folk, may differ depending on the main disease, provoking such symptoms.
